Discrimination

Discrimination can occur at any stage of the employment relationship, even during the recruitment and selection process.  If an Employment Tribunal decides that you acted in a discriminatory way as defined under the relevant pieces of legislation the penalty can be unlimited.   It is therefore vital that you and all your employees understand how discrimination occurs, that it is not acceptable and how to avoid it.
Discrimination is illegal on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, race, religious belief, age (with effect from October 2006) and disability.  It is recommended that you communicate clearly with your employees the company stance on discriminatory behaviour in the form of a dignity at work policy, which would incorporate bullying and harassment.

The HR Tap can work with you to create an environment where discrimination is not part of the working life of your employees and you will have a solid defence should a claim be made against you.

Age Discrimination

Age discrimination comes into effect on 1st October 2006, this form of discrimination (both direct and indirect) is thought to be prevalent in business today.  Tribunals are expecting to see a significant number of claims after October.

You will need to protect your business.  We recommend that you become aware of your responsibilities and the actions you need to take to get your practices in line with the legislation.  Our Training seminar on Age discrimination can be run as an inhouse course so please contact us to discuss your requirements.
